My kids don’t play with boxes anymore. I’m sad about it, but I know they aren’t. I knew it would happen someday, but why at the beginning of summer? When they were little, nothing beat a good big box. Unfortunately, I learned the days of boxes are over. While cleaning a closet, I found a large moving box. I thought maybe a big box would inspire my son and his friend to build a fort. “Hey guys, do you want this really cool box?” My son answered “no” without even looking at it. His friend at least examined the box and kindly told me, “I advise you to recycle it.” His exact words. Okay, good advice from a sixth grader. I collapsed the box immediately and stacked it with the recycling. When I looked at the boys again, they had just sat down to play a game of chess. Suddenly, I felt very old and very young at the same time.

It was a cool box, though.
